The VIBGYOR and its spectrum may be limiting in its ways but quite exhausting if one has to make a decision and work out from the choices. Throw in the various hues and what you get is an average of 1 million shades that you get sitting right up your seat!

Evidence suggests that there are some people who can see 100 million shades. According to Color Vision Researcher, Dr Jay Neitz, only women have four types of cones (2% of women have a genetic mutation that results in one mutant cone out of the three normal cone cell types). Such women are called Tetrachromatic women.

So if your interior designer is a woman, chances are that the colour combinations and mixology for your home or workspace are doing justice to the theme and the place settings.

Why are we focusing on colour combinations and mixology?

There are several reasons for this -

1.   Get the in-depth analysis of your expectations and preferences.
2.   One colour has so many possibilities of mixing, however the right one shall work for you.
3.   The theme that you are working on largely affects the end process. Each colour mixture, shade or hue sets the stage for visualisation to be completed.
4.   The geographical area plays a role in ensuring the right colour combinations. For example, if you are an interior designer, the insects are attracted to certain colours so keep them off your walls. As a graphic designer, the placement of the design matters since the atmosphere and the light conditions impact the way the colour is perceived.
5.   The climatic factors play a crucial role in the colour blends. In areas where sun is less, bright interiors and branding materials work best. What’s more is that they are also mood enhancers.
6.   Colour blindness is a physical anomaly that affects most people. If you are colour blind, your living or workspaces mustn’t have these colours since they would confuse you. In branding materials the same rule goes but then also a fact remains that one can’t not adopt a particular colour in the view of the general population.

Colour combinations and mixology is a well thought and researched aspect of design and branding. Before beginning the branding project, the project brief must include the details of colours so that colour blindness, living conditions, geographical area and its impact are well scrutinised before the branding materials are put out.

Imagine the horror of the fact that the brand you are pitching with very amazing ideas has a founder who is colour blind!

The point is that inclusivity is also one of the key aspects while considering the color combinations and mixes. Here, it makes sense to factor in the brand color, consumer palette and the culture in which the brand shall thrive.
